Ten Bears Named to All-MASCAC Football Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior right guard Ty McGrath (Cumming, Georgia), junior defensive tackle Elvis Romero (Wayne, N.J.) and sophomore defensive end Emmanuel Omere (Bessemer, Ala.) garnered All-MASCAC First Team honors to highlight the Bears' ten representatives on the 2015 All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Team.

Senior strong safety David Console (Malden, Mass.), senior inside linebacker Nicholas Salois (Warwick, R.I.), junior left tackle Colton Schilling (Guilford, Conn.), sophomore cornerback Kyle Dance (West Roxbury, Mass.), sophomore receiver Travis Bassett (Littleton, Mass.), sophomore center Brett Haughey (Waianae, Hawaii) and sophomore fullback Malik Garrett (Dorchester, Mass.) were each named to the All-MASCAC Second Team to round out the Bears' all-conference honorees.

McGrath and fellow offensive linemen Schilling and Haughey anchored an outstanding BSU offensive line which paved the way for 4,304 yards of total offense in ten games during the regular season including 1,897 through the air and 2,407 on the ground.

Romero has 52 tackes (36 solo) on the season including a team-leading 14 tackles for loss as well as six sacks and a forced fumble, while Omere checks in with 40 tackles (32 solo) with 11 1/2 going for loss and a team-best seven sacks. Omere also has six pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Console leads the team with five interceptions to go along with seven pass breakups, 46 tackles (36 solo) and a blocked kick. Three of his five picks came in the Bears' 64-42 Cranberry Bowl win over Mass. Maritime Academy including a 44-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Salois has a team-high 70 tackles with 43 solo stops, five tackles for loss, an interception, two pass breakups and a forced and recovered fumble, while Dance finished the regular season with 56 tackles, a team-best 49 solo stops as well as two interceptions, six breakups and a forced and recovered fumble.

Bassett leads the Bears with 35 catches for 664 yards and seven touchdowns. He already ranks eighth all-time at Bridgewater State in receptions (73), tenth in touchdown catches and 11th in receiving yards (1,192).

Garrett has rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown while also catching 12 passes for 133 yards and another score.

The BSU football team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 7-3 (6-2 MASCAC). The Bears have been selected to compete in the 2015 ECAC Legacy Bowl and will take on Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday, November 22nd at noon in New Britain, Connecticut.
