David Console Named MASCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior strong safety David Console has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week.

Console recorded three interceptions, including one which he returned 44 yards for a touchdown, in the Bears' 64-42 Cranberry Bowl victory over Mass. Maritime Academy. The Malden, Massachusetts product also recorded a pair of solo tackles, and his third interception set up BSU's ninth and final touchdown of the game.

The three interceptions marked the most in a game for the Bears since John Bascon picked off three passes in a 28-14 win over Salve Regina University back on September 16th of 2006.

Through ten games this season, Console has recorded 46 tackles (36 solo), including 3 1/2 for loss, to go along with five interceptions, seven pass break-ups and a blocked kick. He is currently tied for the MASCAC lead in interceptions and ranks third in passes defended (12).

In 39 games over four seasons with the Bears, Console has amassed 163 tackles (124 solo), including 14 for loss, eight interceptions, 13 pass break-ups, two forced fumbles, one recovered fumble and three blocked kicks.

Console also registered a defensive score during the 2014 campaign as he set a school record with a 75-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the Bears' season-opener against Salve Regina on September 5th.

The BSU football team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 7-3 (6-2 MASCAC). The Bears are awaiting word on a potential ECAC Bowl Game selection. Selections and pairings are expected to be announced later on today.
