BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore receiver Travis Bassett been named to the 2015 Capital One Division III Football Academic All-District One Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bassett will now move on to the national ballot for potential selection to the Capital One Academic All-America squad that will be announced later this month.

Bassett is the program's sixth CoSIDA Academic All-District One selection since 2003 and first since teammate Marty Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) earned the honor last season.

The Capital One Academic All-America program selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America program since 2011.

The 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Year and Fall All-Academic Team selection, Bassett currently sports an impressive 3.45 grade point average while majoring in exercise science.

Through eight games this season, Bassett has hauled in 28 receptions for 532 yards and five touchdowns. The Littleton, Massachusetts product ranks second in the MASCAC in yards per catch, and is ninth in receiving yards. Bassett is also tied for seventh among the conference leaders in receiving touchdowns.

In 17 games over his first two seasons with the Bears, Bassett has caught 66 passes for 1,060 yards and eight touchdowns. He is only the 11th player in program history to reach the 1,000-yard receiving milestone.

The BSU football team is currently 6-2 on the season with a 5-1 mark in the MASCAC standings. The Bears entertain Framingham State University (7-1, 6-0 MASCAC) on Saturday in a matchup of the top two teams in the conference standings.
