Marty Voorhis Named to Capital One Academic All-District One Gridiron Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior defensive end Marty Voorhis has been named to the 2014 Capital One Division III Football Academic All-District One Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Voorhis will now move on to the national ballot for selection to the Capital One Academic All-America squad that will be announced later this month.

Voorhis is the program's fifth CoSIDA Academic All-District One selection since 2003 and first since former gridiron standout and current assistant coach Alex Monteiro earned the honor in 2012.

The Capital One Academic All-America program selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America program since 2011.

A 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Fall All-Academic Team selection, Voorhis currently sports an impressive 3.42 grade point average while majoring in Accounting and Finance.

Through nine games during the 2014 regular season, Voorhis has notched 47 tackles (37 solo) including 14 ½ for loss and 3 ½ sacks.  The Nashua, New Hampshire native has also forced two fumbles and broken up a pass.

All told in 18 games in a BSU uniform, Voorhis has accumulated 50 tackles (39 solo) with 16 going for loss.

The BSU football team is currently 4-5 on the season with a 3-4 mark in the MASCAC standings.  The Bears wrap up the 2014 campaign on Saturday at home against Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the 36th Annual Cranberry Bowl.
