Four Bears Named to All-MASCAC Football Team

BRIDGWATER, Mass. -- Four Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been selected to the 2014 All-MASCAC Football Team which was announced today.

Senior Matt Green highlighted the Bears' All-MASCAC First Team selections as he was named as both a wide receiver and return specialist.

Joining Green on the all-conference first team are sophomore offensive tackle Joe Hak and sophomore defensive tackle Elvis Romero. Hak was also named to the inaugural MASCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Senior tight end Nick Jablonski is the Bears' lone selection to the All-MASCAC Second Team.

Green, who is making his second straight appearance on the all-conference team, hauled in 64 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2014 campaign. The Stoughton, Massachusetts product currently leads the MASCAC yards per game (112.5).  He is also third in the conference in receptions and receiving yards, despite missing two games to injury, as well as sixth in yards per catch (14.1) and receiving touchdowns.

On a national level, Green ranks 12th in all of Division III in receptions per game (8.0) and 13th in receiving yards per game.

Green set the program's all-time receiving marks for catches and yards as he wrapped up a brilliant four-year career at BSU with 169 receptions for 2,765 yards and 29 touchdowns. His 29 TD catches is second only to BSU Hall of Famer Andy Macaione's school record of 37.

Green also excelled on special teams this season as he averaged 13.7 yards on punt returns and returned a school record two punts for touchdowns in a 51-27 victory over Worcester State.  Green is tied for fourth nationally in punt return touchdowns and is 18th overall in punt return average. 

Hak, who hails from East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, anchored an offensive line which helped produce school record-setting passing numbers in 2014.  BSU quarterbacks eclipsed program marks for yards (2,336), completions (174) and attempts (335).  The Bears ranked second in the MASCAC in red zone scoring percentage (83%) and fourth in both passing yards and first downs (197).

In his first season in the starting lineup, Romero notched 40 tackles (32 solo) including 12 1/2 for loss and 6 1/2 sacks.  The Wayne, New Jersey native also recovered two fumbles and forced one. Romero is tied for third in the MASCAC in fumble recoveries and ranks eighth in sacks and 11th in tackles for loss.

Jablonski caught 18 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown in nine games for the Bears in 2014.  In three seasons with the team, the Assonet, Massachusetts product tallied 31 receptions for 323 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The BSU football team finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 4-6 including a 3-5 mark in the MASCAC standings.
