Matt Green Signs with the Allgäu Comets

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Former Bridgewater State University wide receiver Matt Green has signed with the Allgäu Comets of the European Football League (EFL) and the German Football League (GFL).

Matt is flying out on Monday night to join the team. Their first game is scheduled for April 18th at home against the Badalona Dracs. The team plays its home games at Illerstadion in Kempten which is located in Allgäu, a region in southern Germany.

A native of Stoughton, Massachusetts, Green hauled in 64 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2014 campaign for Bridgewater State. He ranked 12th in all of NCAA Division III in both receptions per game (8.0) and receiving yards per game (112.5).

Green set the program's all-time receiving marks for catches and yards as he wrapped up a brilliant four-year career at BSU with 169 receptions for 2,765 yards and 29 touchdowns.  His 29 TD catches is second only to BSU Hall of Famer Andy Macaione's school record of 37.

In 2013, Green eclipsed the Bears' single-season receiving records for receptions (69), yards (1,315) and touchdowns (16).  He also broke the BSU single-game mark for receiving touchdowns with five (vs. Worcester State) and tied the single-game standard for receptions with 12 (vs. Mass. Maritime).

Green also excelled on special teams this past season as he averaged 13.7 yards on punt returns and returned a school record two punts for touchdowns in a victory over Worcester State.  Green tied for fifth nationally in punt return touchdowns and finished 18th overall in punt return average.

Green is the second former Bear over the last four months to sign with a European team.  Quarterback Mike McCarthy signed with the Geneva Seahawks of Switzerland back in December.
