Nine Bears Named to Inaugural All-MASCAC Football Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Headlined by Defensive Player of the Year Rob Ruggiero (Acton, Mass.), the Bridgewater State University Bears placed nine student-athletes on the inaugural All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Team which was announced today by MASCAC Director of Media Relations, Emily Diekelmann.

Joining Ruggiero on the All-MASCAC Team on the defensive side of the ball are senior strong safety Dillon Huber-Parker (Longmont, Colo.), senior free safety Eddie Jewel (Amherst, Mass.) and junior defensive tackle Adam Toman (Barrington, R.I.).  Ruggiero was named to the first team by the league's coaches, while Huber-Parker, Jewel and Toman were voted to the second team.

On offense, senior guard Mike Duran (Bridgewater, Mass.), junior wide receiver Matt Green (Stoughton, Mass.), senior fullback Mike Gentili (Leominster, Mass.) and senior quarterback Mike McCarthy (Edgartown, Mass.) were each named to the All-MASCAC First Team, while senior center Cameron Moitoza (Norton, Mass.) is a second team honoree.

Framingham State placed the most student-athletes on the inaugural All-MASCAC Football Team with 12, followed by Bridgewater and Westfield State with nine apiece.  A total of 55 players were named to the all-conference team with each of the nine schools being represented.

Jewel is making his third straight all-conference appearance while Huber-Parker is making his second consecutive appearance. Jewel was a New England Football Conference (NEFC) First Team selection in 2012 and a second team honoree in 2011, while Huber-Parker was named to the All-NEFC Second Team a year ago. 

The 2013 BSU football team posted a 6-4 record in the inaugural MASCAC football season, capped off by the victory over Mass. Maritime in the 35th Annual Cranberry Bowl.  The Bears finished tied for third in the conference standings with a 5-3 league mark.

Notes: Ruggiero is tied for third in all of Division III in tackles for loss (23.5) and tied for sixth nationally in sacks (12.0)....Huber-Parker is tied for eighth among the Division III leaders in interceptions with six....Green leads all of Division III in receiving yards (1,315) and ranks third in touchdown receptions (16) and 12th in all purpose yards (173.7 ypg).  He is also tied for 29th in receptions per game (6.9)....McCarthy is tied for sixth in Division III in points responsible for (210), tied for 16th in rushing touchdowns (17) and tied for 26th in scoring (9.6 ppg).
