Matt Green Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior wide receiver Matt Green has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for games of November 15th and 16th.

Green hauled in 12 receptions for 181 yards and a 33-yard touchdown in the Bears' 45-20 Cranberry Bowl victory over Mass. Maritime on November 16th.  The Stoughton, Massachusetts native equaled the BSU program mark for receptions in a game (12) and eclipsed the school single-season records for receptions and touchdown receptions.

Green put together the greatest single-season receiving performance in BSU football history in 2013 as he caught 69 passes for 1,315 yards and 16 touchdowns, all school records.  He broke the previous program marks of 65 receptions, 1,067 yards and 15 touchdowns respectively held by Chris Joyce (2007), Ben Bascon (2005) and BSU Hall of Famer Andy Macaione (1999).

Green currently ranks second in all of Division III in receiving yards and receiving yards per game (131.5).  He is also third nationally in touchdown receptions and 11th in all-purpose yards (176.8 ypg).

In 30 games over his first three seasons with the Bears, Green has amassed 105 receptions for 1,865 yards and 22 touchdowns.  He has also rushed for 144 yards and another score.  Green is second all-time at Bridgewater in receiving yards, tied for second in receptions and tied for third in touchdown catches. Macaione (1997-2000) owns all three careers marks with 120 receptions, 2,642 yards and 37 touchdowns.

This marks the second time that Green was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week as he also earned the honor for his performance in the Bears’ 51-20 victory over Worcester State University back on September 20th.  Green caught six passes for 202 yards and a BSU single-game record five touchdowns in the win over the Lancers.

The 2013 BSU football team posted a 6-4 record in the inaugural Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) football season, capped off by the victory over Mass. Maritime in the 35th Annual Cranberry Bowl.  The Bears finished tied for third in the conference standings with a 5-3 league mark.

Last week, Green was one of nine Bears named to the All-MASCAC Team as he garnered first team honors.
