BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior wide receiver Matt Green has been selected to the 2013 D3football.com All-East Region Second Team.

Green put together the greatest single-season receiving performance in BSU football history in 2013 as he caught 69 passes for 1,315 yards and 16 touchdowns, all school records.  He broke the previous program marks of 65 receptions, 1,067 yards and 15 touchdowns respectively held by Chris Joyce (2007),Ben Bascon (2005) and BSU Hall of Famer Andy Macaione(1999).

A native of Stoughton, Massachusetts, Green currently ranks second in all of Division III in receiving yards per game (131.5) and fourth in total receiving yards.  He is also tied for fourth nationally in touchdown receptions and 11th in all-purpose yards (176.8 ypg).

Green set or tied single-game program records this season for touchdowns (5) and receptions (12).  He caught six passes for 202 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-20 win over Worcester State on September 20th.  Green also hauled in 12 receptions for 181 yards and a 33-yard touchdown in the Bears' 45-20 Cranberry Bowl victory over Mass. Maritime on November 16th.

In 30 games over his first three seasons with the Bears, Green has amassed 105 receptions for 1,865 yards and 22 touchdowns.  He has also rushed for 144 yards and another score.  Green is second all-time at Bridgewater in receiving yards, tied for second in receptions and tied for third in touchdown catches. Macaione (1997-2000) owns all three careers marks with 120 receptions, 2,642 yards and 37 touchdowns.

The 2013 BSU football team posted a 6-4 record in the inaugural Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) football season, capped off by the victory over Mass. Maritime in the 35th Annual Cranberry Bowl.  The Bears finished tied for third in the conference standings with a 5-3 league mark.

Last month, Green was one of nine Bears named to the All-MASCAC Team as he garnered first team honors.  He was also selected to the New England Football Writers (NEFW) Division II/III All‐New England Team which will be honored at the NEFW Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 12th at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham.

The 2013 D3football.com All-East Region Team, selected in balloting by East Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 284 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 77 players were chosen.

Notes: Green is one of six players from the MASCAC named to the All-East Region Team as he joins senior running backs Octavias McKoy of Western Connecticut State and Melikke Van Alstyne of Framingham State, as well as junior tight end Casey Hippert of Worcester State and senior tackle John Moriarty of Mass. Maritime on the offensive side of the ball.  Teammate and senior defensive end Rob Ruggiero (Acton, Mass.) was the lone MASCAC student-athlete selected to the All-East Region Team on defense.
