Eddie Jewel Named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior safety Eddie Jewel has been selected as the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week.

Jewel intercepted a pair of passes and recorded five tackles in Bridgewater’s 10-7 victory at Plymouth State over the weekend. His first pick led to a BSU touchdown as the Bears marched 53 yards on seven plays during the ensuing drive. Jewel returned his second pick twenty yards which sealed the victory as it came with just 16 seconds left to play.

A native of Amherst, Massachusetts, Jewel transferred to BSU prior to this season after playing at Division I (FCS) Monmouth University.  Through the Bears’ first two games, he has six tackles to his credit, including three solo stops, to go along with his two interceptions.  Bridgewater is a perfect 2-0 to start the year heading into Saturday’s NEFC Bogan Division opener at Framingham State.
