Former Football Standout Borsari Named to URI Coaching Staff

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Former Bridgewater State linebacker and assistant coach, Doug Borsari, has been named to the football coaching staff at the University of Rhode Island.

Borsari will be an Assistant Offensive Line Coach on the Rams’ football staff and will work closely with Offensive Coordinator Roy Istvan. URI competes in the Colonial Athletic Association which is a member of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA).

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts and 2006 graduate of Bridgewater State, Borsari was a standout performer on the gridiron for four seasons from 2001 to 2005.  He registered 135 tackles (86 solo) playing in over 30 games at linebacker for the Bears.  In his junior season of 2004, Doug earned First Team All-New England Football Conference honors and followed that up with a second team selection in 2005.

Borsari joined the Bears’ football coaching staff following graduation and spent three seasons working under Head Coach Chuck Denune as the team’s linebackers coach.  He also interned with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the summers of 2007 and 2008 working inside the scouting and personnel departments.

Most recently Doug was a graduate assistant and coached the defensive ends at Springfield College the past two seasons. He earned his Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Springfield in 2010.
