2009 Football Captains Announced

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College Head Football Coach, Chuck Denune, announced the team captains for the upcoming 2009 season.

Joining senior linebacker and returning captain Casey Florence (Bridgewater, MA), are fellow seniors; tight end Tony Cina (Hanson, MA), defensive lineman Chris Dijak (Lunenburg, MA) and offensive guard Jeff Smith (Danvers, MA).

All four players earned New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Bogan Division First Team honors last season. The four were chosen in a vote of team members.

Bridgewater State posted a record of 7-3 during the 2008 campaign.  The Bears won each of their last six games and earned a share of the NEFC Bogan Division title (along with Maine Maritime Academy) with a 6-1 mark in the division.

The Bears will open up the 2009 schedule at home on Saturday, September 5th against non-conference opponent Mount Ida College. After a pair of NEFC crossover games versus UMass Dartmouth (Sept. 12) and Salve Regina University (Sept. 19), BSC will begin divisional play on September 26th when they welcome Bogan rival Maine Maritime to Swenson Field.

Bridgewater will also host Framingham State College on October 10th and will wrap up the home schedule with a Homecoming Game against Worcester State College on Halloween.

The Bears will travel to Fitchburg State (Oct. 3), Coast Guard Academy (Oct. 17) and Westfield State (Oct. 24), and conclude the regular season with the traditional Cranberry Bowl at Mass. Maritime Academy on November 7th.
