By Jim Fenton

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, the Bridgewater State University baseball team reached the 20-run mark Thursday afternoon.

Kevin Lindsay (East Bridgewater, Mass.) went 5-for-6 and drove in three runs as the Bears coasted to a 20-7 non-conference victory over Lasell University at Alumni Park.

BSU was in front, 7-4, then scored six runs each in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Bears (17-13) have won three straight games, scoring a combined 50 runs. BSU exceeded 20 runs on March 22 when it defeated Eastern Nazarene College, 22-4, at home.

The top five hitters in the lineup combined for 15 of the Bears' 19 hits.

Lindsay had a double and four singles to key the offense while Ryan Flaherty (Duxbury, Mass.) went 3-for-6, Steven Simon (Hanover, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double, Scott Emerson (Peabody, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with a triple and Jay Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) was 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Lindsay, who recorded his first collegiate five-hit game, improved his average to .364 and is now tied with Emerson for the team lead with 40 hits.

Emerson scored three runs, raising his career total to 146. The junior is now one behind the program's all-time leader, BSU Hall of Famer Ed Grueter, who had 147 runs from 1988-91.

Six of BSU's 20 runs were unearned as the Lasers (21-14) committed three errors and had five wild pitches and six walks.

Lasell took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when CJ Mills (Waltham, Mass.) walked, stole two bases and scored when Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) reached on an infield error. Brad Edwards (East Brunswick, N.J.) plated Audet on a single to center following a stolen base.

The Bears went in front, 4-2, in the third inning, getting all four runs after two outs.

Emerson singled to right and scored on Lindsay's double to right. Flaherty reached on an error for a run, stole second and scored after two wild pitches. An infield error scored Simon, who had walked and moved up on a wild pitch and passed ball.

The lead went to 7-2 in the fourth as Emerson tripled to left-center and scored on Lindsay's single to right. Simon delivered a two-out double to left for a run and Wladkowski added an RBI single up the middle.

Lasell scored twice in the fifth on a two-run single to center by Scott Lyon (Weston, Mass.) and BSU added a run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Joshua Selander (Granby, Conn.).

In the sixth, Emerson walked, Lindsay singled to right and Flaherty singled to center to load the bases.

Simon brought the first run home with a single to left-center. With two outs, DJ Prampin (Worcester, Mass.) hit a two-run single to left.

Selander walked and pinch hitter Joe Frechette (Plymouth, Mass.) hit a three-run double to left for a 14-4 lead.

BSU scored six more times in the seventh for a 20-4 advantage.

Lindsay, Flaherty and pinch hitter Kyle Suraci (Clinton, Conn.) singled to load the bases and Wladkowski drove in a pair with a single up the middle.

After Mathew Pigeon (Canton, Mass.) walked, Prampin reached on an error to bring in a run.

Selander hit a sacrifice fly to center for a run before pinch hitter Logan Petrosino (Beverly, Mass.) had an RBI single through the left side. The 20th run came home on an infield hit by Lindsay.

Lasell scored three runs in the eighth on an RBI double by Jonah Neilsen (Manchester, Conn.) with a groundout and passed ball bringing in the other two.

Winning pitcher Danny Jasmin (East Meadow, N.Y.) is 1-0 after going 3 2/3 innings and allowing two runs and a hit in a bullpen game.

The Bears return to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday when they host the Mass. College of Liberal Arts at 3:30 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday in North Adams.

Lasell is at Johnson & Wales on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
