BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior righthander David Kerns has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Kerns allowed four runs, only one of which was earned, over 4 2/3 innings and did not factor in the decision in a season-opening 8-4 setback to #24 Marietta College at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. The East Cambridge, Massachusetts product scattered nine hits, walked one and fanned seven batters in his first start since 2018.

In three seasons with the Bears, Kerns has appeared in 19 games and made five starts. He has produced a record of 3-3 with four saves and notched 35 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings of work.

The BSU baseball team is currently 0-2 on the young season. The Bears take on Ohio Wesleyan University at the Snowbird Baseball Classic this evening at 6:30.
