Matt Levasseur Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior second baseman Matt Levasseur has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

A native of Milton, Massachusetts, Levasseur batted .476 (10-21) with a home run, a pair of doubles, eight runs scored and six RBI in five games for the Bears last week in Vero Beach, Florida. He also posted a .560 on base percentage and a .714 slugging percentage.

Levasseur went 6-for-7 with a home run, double, five runs and four RBI in a doubleheader split with the University of Northwestern. He belted a walk-off three run blast to win game two of the twinbill, 12-11.

Levasseur also went 3-for-6 with a double, three runs and two RBI in an 11-3 win over SUNY Maritime, and 1-for-4 with a walk in a 6-3 setback to Wilkes University. He finished the trip with at least one hit in eight of the Bears' nine games.

In nine games down in Florida, Levasseur batted .432 (16-37) with three doubles, a home run, 11 runs and seven runs batted in.

The BSU baseball team is currently 3-6 on the young season. The Bears are scheduled to travel to Rhode Island College on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Anchormen starting at noon.
