Three Bears Named to All-MASCAC Baseball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior shortstop Ryan Feeney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) garnered first team honors to highlight the Bears' three representatives on the 2016 All-MASCAC Baseball Team.

Joining Feeney on the all-conference team from Bridgewater State are senior pitcher David Holmes (North Easton, Mass.) and senior centerfielder Travis Ritchie (Taunton, Mass.). Holmes and Ritchie both were named to the second team.

Feeney, who has started all 34 games at shortstop in his first year of collegiate baseball, enters this week's MASCAC Tournament with a season batting average of .376 (47-125) with 12 doubles, 23 runs scored and 16 runs batted in. He is also sporting a .472 slugging percentage as well as a .409 on base percentage.

Feeney ranks fourth in the MASCAC in both hits and doubles, fifth in batting average and eighth in total bases (59). He also leads the conference in double plays turned with 22.

Holmes is currently 5-1 with three complete games and a pair of shutouts in nine appearances on the mound this season including seven starts. He has fanned 38 batters with just nine walks in 49 innings of work, and has a 2.94 earned run average.

Holmes leads the MASCAC in shutouts and ranks second in wins. He is also fifth in both complete games and innings pitched, sixth in ERA and eighth in strikeouts.

In 34 appearances (25 starts) over four seasons with the Bears, Holmes has produced a win-loss record of 11-10 with 11 complete games and four shutouts. His career ERA stands at 3.15, and he has struck out 108 batters and walked just 24 in 162 2/3 innings. 

In 33 games in centerfield, Ritchie is batting .292 (35-120) with a home run, two doubles, a triple, 19 runs scored, ten RBI and eight stolen bases. He has also recorded three outfield assists, and sports a .987 fielding percentage.

Ritchie ranks second in the MASCAC with five sacrifice bunts, and is 11th in conference with his eight stolen bases.

In 60 games (all starts) over his two seasons in a BSU uniform, Ritchie has a career batting average of .315 (69-219) with a home run, six doubles, three triples, 15 stolen bases, 39 runs scored and 17 RBI.

The BSU baseball team is currently 16-18 on the season. The Bears, who posted a 7-7 conference record, are seeded fifth in the MASCAC Tournament and will travel to Westfield State University on Thursday afternoon for a three o'clock opening round game with the fourth-seeded Owls.
