BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sophomore right-hander Andy Sadoski (Harwich, Mass.) tossed a five-hit shutout to lead the Bridgewater State University baseball team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Salve Regina University on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Park.

Bridgewater improves to 16-12 on the season with the win.  The Bears have won six of their last seven games and eighth of their last ten.  Salve slips to 9-17 overall.

Sadoski (5-1) did not walk anyone, struck out five and induced 15 groundouts as he threw 98 pitches, 77 of which were strikes.  He retired 16 of the last 17 batters he faced including 15 in row after gving up a lead-off single in the fourth.

The Bears opened the scoring in the bottom of the third as junior rightfielder Tory Buck (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) worked a lead-off walk, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out.  Junior second baseman Sean Riley (Fairhaven, Mass.) followed with a walk to put runners at the corners.  Buck then crossed the plate with the first run of the game on the back end of an attempted double steal when Riley was thrown out at second.

Bridgewater added an insurance run in the eighth thanks in part to a costly Seahawk error.  Riley led off the frame with a long double to right. After an out, junior first baseman David Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second.  Senior leftfielder Ian Williams (Taunton, Mass.) then reached on an error by the second baseman allowing Riley to come all the way around to score.

Riley finished 2-for-3 at the plate and reached safely three times.  Riley's double in the eighth was his 19th of the season as he added on to his BSU single-season record. Pierce also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and added a pair of steals.

Junior right-hander Robin Lowe (Andover, Mass.) pitched well in loss for the Seahawks.  Lowe (0-2) gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings of work.

Sophomore shortstop Daniel Donohue (Westbury, N.Y.) and senior leftfielder Matt Capone (East Providence, R.I.) paced the Salve offense with two hits apiece.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Fitchburg State University on Saturday afternoon to take on the Falcons in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference twinbill beginning at one.  The Seahawks host Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
