Riley, Sadoski Lead Baseball to 4-2 Win over Johnson & Wales

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sean Riley (Fairhaven, Mass.) belted a pair of home runs and Andy Sadoski (Harwich, Mass.) pitched eight solid innings to lead the Bridgewater State University baseball team to a 4-2 non-conference victory over Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Park.

The hosts Bears improve to 12-11 on the season with the win, while Johnson & Wales falls to 14-9.

Sadoski (4-1) worked eight plus innings giving up just the two runs on ten hits while walking two and striking out one.  He induced 14 ground outs including a pair of double plays.

Riley knocked out his first round tripper of the afternoon in the fifth inning, a two-run blast over the right-centerfield fence, to erase a one-run deficit and give the Bears a 3-2 lead.  He added a solo shot in the seventh, his fourth of the season, to account for the final score of 4-2.

The visiting Wildcats had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on back-to-back doubles by Tyler Pacheco (East Hampstead, N.H.) and Jack Hocking (Hanover, Mass.).  The Bears tied the game in the bottom half of the inning as Craig Stewart (Brockton, Mass.) singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a base hit by Trevor Lawson (Easton, Mass.).  Stewart would come around to score on an RBI single to left off the bat of Michael St. Clair (Berkley, Mass.).

Johnson & Wales reclaimed the lead in the fifth as Joe Coppola (Ridgewood, N.J.) rapped a base hit and advanced to third on a James Reyes (Providence, R.I.) double.  Alex Pezzuto (Hastings, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to right to plate Coppola and give the Wildcats the 2-1 advantage.  Reyes was thrown out on the play after getting hung up between third and home.

Riley's go ahead homer in the fifth came after Tory Buck (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) had led off the frame with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Bryant Warner (Harwich, Mass.) came on in relief of Sadoski with nobody out and a runner on first in the ninth to record his first save of the season.  Warner fanned three batters and left two runners on in the frame.

Riley and David Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass.) each finished with two hits to lead the Bears' offense.  Pezzuto, Hocking and Coppola registered two hits apiece to lead the Wildcats' 11-hit attack.

Mike Wood (Hudson, Mass.) suffered the loss on the mound for Johnson & Wales as he worked the first seven innings.  Wood (2-2) allowed four runs on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Notes: Riley's multi-homer game was the Bears' first since Matt Greenberg connected for a pair of four-baggers in game one of a doubleheader against UMass Dartmouth on March 27, 2010.
