Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior right-hander Brian Guillotte (New Bedford, MA) tossed a complete game five-hitter to lead the Bridgewater State College baseball team to a 7-1 win over Mass. Maritime Academy in game one of a MASCAC doubleheader on Thursday.  The visiting Buccaneers earned the split of the twinbill with a 15-12 victory in the nightcap.

Guillotte (3-3) allowed just one unearned run and struck out four batters while walking just one for the Bears (17-16, 8-4 MASCAC) in the opener.

Senior third baseman Mark Claffey (Bellingham, MA) went 2-for-2 with an RBI triple and two runs scored.  Claffey also walked as he reached safely in all three plate appearances.

Freshman catcher Keane Costa (Fairhaven, MA) had two hits in three at bats including a two-run single which capped off the Bears' three-run first inning.

Mass. Maritime sophomore right-hander Louis Ottino III (Plymouth, MA) picked up the loss on the mound for the Buccaneers (8-17, 3-9 MASCAC) as he gave up seven runs on nine hits and five walks in five innings of work.

In game two, junior first baseman Nick Levitre (Grafton, MA) went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBI, and classmate Corey Murphy (East Wareham, MA) pitched four-hit ball over six innings, as the Buccaneers earned the split with the 15-12 victory.

Murphy allowed four runs (three earned) with five walks and a strikeout.  He got plenty of offensive support as the Buccaneers banged out 14 hits to go along with five walks and two hit batsmen.

Mass. Maritime scored five runs in the first highlighted by a two-run single by freshman right fielder Aram Mulhern (Taunton, MA).  The Buccaneers added a single run in the third, three more in the fifth and exploded for six runs in the seventh to take a 15-4 lead.  Levitre had a two-run double in the seventh.

Bridgewater battled back with eight runs in the bottom half of the seventh.  Junior Paul Politsopoulos (Foxboro, MA) and freshman Tory Buck (Shelburne Falls, MA) each had two-run doubles in the inning while junior left fielder Ian Williams (Taunton, MA) capped off the scoring with a two-run single. With Williams on first and just one out, Mass. Maritime senior reliever Tim Moore (Georgetown, MA) induced back-to-back groundouts to end the rally and the game.

Williams finished 4-for-4 in game two with an RBI double and an RBI triple to go along with his two-run single.  Freshman lefty Jonathan Surette (Lynn, MA) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bears.  Surette (1-3) gave up eight runs (four earned) on eight hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts over four innings.

Bridgewater will travel to Worcester State College on Saturday to take on the Lancers in a key MASCAC doubleheader. The Bears have already clinched a spot in next week's MASCAC Tournament heading into Saturday's regular season finale.  Mass. Maritime heads to Westfield State for a conference twinbill with the Owls.
