Ten Bears Named to Little East Fall All-Academic Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Ten Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been named to the Fall 2016 Little East Conference (LEC) All-Academic Team as announced by LEC Assistant Commissioner, Adam Sopris.

The nine student-athletes include six field hockey players and three representatives from the women's tennis team.

To earn a spot on the all-academic teams a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3, and be a full-time member of a varsity team.

Receiving the honor as members of the field hockey team are seniors Hannah Ciavarra (Holliston, Mass.), Brittany Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Hayley Grimes (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and sophomores Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.), Samantha Hayes (Norwood, Mass.) and Alexandra Zoebisch (Plymouth, Mass.). Representing the women’s tennis team are juniors Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.), and sophomores Kelly Gately (Taunton, Mass.) and Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.).

The Little East Conference began honoring an all-academic team during the 2007-08 academic year.  While the majority of Bridgewater State varsity squads are members of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), three BSU teams call the Little East home.  Field hockey and women’s tennis compete in the Little East in the fall, and men’s tennis in the spring.
