Cass Highlights Bears' All-MASCAC Women's Cross Country Honorees

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Runner of the Year honors to highlight the Bears' three representatives on the 2023 All-MASCAC Women's Cross Country Team.

BSU head coach Christine Kloiber was voted by heer peers as the 2023 BSN Sports Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. Kloiber guided the Bears to a second place finish this past weekend at the MASCAC Championships held at the Fort Devens Course in Devens, Massachusetts.

Joining Cass on the All-MASCAC Team from Bridgewater State are senior Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) and junior Lily Valcovic (East Taunton, Mass.).

Cass captured the individual title at the MASCAC Championships as she outdistanced the field of 65 runners. Cass, who  is the Bears' first MASCAC women's cross country individual champion since Krysta Zbikowksi in 2013, covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 19:10.88

Major placed third at the meet with a time of 20:02.75 as she is making her second straight appearance on the All-MASCAC Team. Valcovic crossed the finish line in 20:14.94 to place fifth overall.

The top ten runners at the MASCAC Championship meet earned All-MASCAC honors.
