Cass Places 145th at NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships

NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) placed 145th at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships held on Saturday afternoon at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania.

Competing in a field of 293 runners, Cass covered the six-kilometer layout in a time of 22:49.6.

Carlteton College captured the team National Championship, while senior Fiona Smith of the College of Saint Benedict won the individual title with a time of 19:54.1.

Cass was the first BSU women's cross country student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA championships since BSU Hall of Famer Molly Rouillard in 2012 and just the third this century (Nicole Mauro, 2007). She placed tenth (22:23.42) out of a field of 231 runners at the DIII East Region Championships last weekend at Hopkinton State Fair Grounds to punch her ticket to the national championship meet.
