Cass Leads Women's Cross Country at Keene State Invitational

KEENE, N.H. -- Sophomore Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) placed second out of a field of 184 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team on Saturday at the Keene State Invitational held on the rain-soaked campus of Keene State College.

The Bears placed seventh overall in the team standings. Wellesley College captured the team title followed by Brandeis University in second place and host Keene State in third.

Cass covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 18:43.9. Sophomore Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) of Wellesley checked in with the winning time of 18:32.7.

Senior Nicole Major (Taunton, Mass.) was the next Bear to cross the line as she posted a time of 19.56.5 to finish 32nd overall.

Junior Lily Valcovic (East Taunton, Mass.), junior Kate Brown (Acushnet, Mass.), and junior Elisabeth Sweeney (Marshfield, Mass.) capped off Bridgewater's top five runners at the meet. Valcovic recorded a career-best time of 20:05.6 to place 34th, while Brown hit a personal-best with a time of 22:12.2 to place 93rd at the meet. Sweeney placed 95th overall as she crossed the line in a season-best time of 22:13.0.

The BSU women's cross country team is off until Saturday, October 14th when the Bears compete at the Suffolk Invitational held at Franklin Park in Boston.
