Ten Bears Named to CSC Academic All-District® One Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Ten members of the Bridgewater State University track & field and cross country programs have been selected to the 2023 Academic All-District® One Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

Earning the honor from Bridgewater State on the women's side are are seniors Lily Marra and Alison McDonough; juniors Nicole Major and Juliana Patrone; and sophomore Tristen Gomes. Graduate student Jacob DeAndrade; senior Ryan Goldman; juniors Thomas Barinelli and Jonathan Quigley as well as sophomore Charles Dakai picked up the accolade for the BSU men's track & field/cross country teams.

The ten Bears are among just 11 student-athletes from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to garner the honor.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletics realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes track & field/cross country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. A student-athlete must have also competed in at least 50% of the competitions that his/her institution schedules in either cross country, indoor track & field or outdoor track & field for the 2022-2023 season.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 28th.

A native of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Marra graduated summa cum laude earlier this month with a degree in management. She checks in with an amazing 3.98 career grade point average. Marra earned 2023 All-MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field honors in the 4x400-meter relay.

McDonough, who hails from Halifax, Massachusetts, sports an impressive 3.93 GPA. She also graduated summa cum laude earlier this month with a degree in elementary education and psychology. McDonough garnered All-MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field accolades in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and 4x100-meter relay; USTFCCCA Division III All-East Region honors in the 100 hurdles, long jump, 100-meter dash and 4x100; All-NEICAAA in the 100 hurdles and 4x100; and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 100 hurdles.

Major, who resides in Andover, Massachusetts, boasts an outstanding 3.94 GPA and is majoring in special education. Major garned All-MASCAC honors for both cross country and outdoor track& field (4x400).

A Wilmington, Massachusetts product, Patrone is a mathematics major with a terrific 3.96 GPA.

Gomes, who calls Middleboro, Massachusetts home, checks in with a superb 3.96 GPA over her first four semesters and is majoring in health science. Gomes earned All-MASCAC honors in the triple jump.

Marra, McDonough, Major, Patrone and Gomes helped the BSU women's track & field team capture its third straight MASCAC outdoor title and tenth in program history.

A native of Taunton, Massachusetts, DeAndrade competed this past season as a graduate student as he earned All-MASCAC status in the 4x100-meter relay. He posted a 3.90 GPA in his first year of grad school and is working towards a masters in management. DeAndrade completed his undergraduate degree in management from BSU in 2022 with a career 3.70 GPA.

Goldman, who hails from Franklin, Massachusetts, sports a splendid 3.74 GPA while majoring in physical education. Goldman helped the men's cross country team capture the MASCAC title this past fall for the first time since 2019 and eighth time in program history.

Barinelli, who resides in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, boasts an outstanding 3.89 GPA and is majoring in chemistry. Barinelli garnered All-MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field honors in the high jump as well as DIII All-New England and All-NEICAAA accolades in the long jump.

A Haverhill, Massachusetts product, Quigley is a computer science major with a terrific 3.81 GPA.

Dakai, who calls Millville, Massachusetts home, checks in with an exceptional 3.82 GPA over his first four semesters and is also majoring in computer science.

DeAndrade, Goldman, Barinelli, Quigley and Dakai helped the BSU men's track & field team capture its fifth straight MASCAC outdoor title and eighth in program history.
