ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's cross country team opened the 2022 season at the 8th Annual Wheaton & Babson Season Opener held at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course in Attleboro.

Junior Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) paced the Bears as she placed eighth out of a field of 63 runners. Major completed the three-kilometer course in a time of 11:53.5.

Junior Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) was the next BSU harrier to cross the finish line as she checked in with a time of 12:35.5 to place 17th overall, while senior Allison Raposo (Cumberland, R.I.) finished 21st with a time of 12:54.1.

Freshman Janelle Murphy (Brockton, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top 30 performers as she placed 29th overall with a time of 13:04.2 in her collegiate debut.

Senior Laurel Kruger (Denver, Colo.) of Smith College won the meet with a time of 11:53.3 as she edged sophomore Ruby Krasnow (Huntsville, Ala.) of Clark University by less than three seconds. Krasnow recorded a time of 11:55.8.

The Bears placed fourth in the team standings with a score of 101. Smith captured the meet title with a low score of 39.

Following a weekend off, the BSU women's cross country team will compete at the 49th Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 17th.
