Women's Cross Country Places 25th at New Englands

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's cross country team closed out the  2008 season with a 25th place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship held on Saturday in Williamstown, Mass.

BSC sophomore Amanda Hauswirth (Methuen, MA) was the 46th runner to cross the finish line, completing the 6,000-meter course in a time of 24:24.9.

Fellow sophomores Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, MA) and Rebeccah Chase (Northfield, NH) were next across the line for the Bears finishing in 144th and 163rd place respectively.  Eidinger posted a time of 26:27.0, while Chase checked in at 26:47.4.

Middlebury College won the team title with 57 points, followed by Williams College with 82 points.  Those two teams earn the two automatic team berths from the New England region.

MIT was third with 162 points, followed by Colby College in fourth with 170 points, and Amherst College in fifth with 174 points.  MIT, Colby and Amherst will await a possible at-large team berth. Bridgewater State tallied 762 points.

The NCAA will announce the full 32 team field and individual qualifiers for next weekend's national championship race on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Elise Tropiano of Amherst was the individual winner with time of 21:49.3.

There were 49 scoring teams (and six incomplete teams) in the meet and 330 competitors finished the race.
