Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Westfield Tri

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe Westfield State University.

The Bears (3-11, 1-4 MASCAC) suffered a tough 3-2 loss to the host Owls (7-15, 5-0 MASCAC)) and fell to the Wildcats of Bath Path University (10-9) by a score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-15).

Westfield State 3, Bridgewater State 2

Westfield dominated the first and third sets winning by identical scores of 25-9. Bridgewater took sets two and four by scores of 25-17 and 25-23.

In the decisive fifth set, the Owls used an 8-0 run to pull away for the 15-5 triumph and the 3-2 win in the match.

Senior outside hitter Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) paced Westfield State with 13 kills, 16 digs, and four aces while freshman outside hitter Lauren Carnes (Westfield, Mass.) notched ten kills and five digs. Senior setter Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashland, Mass.) contributed 23 assists, 14 digs and an ace.

Freshman middle hitter Lily Welch (Hanson, MA) notched ten kills and five blocks (two solo) for the Bears while senior setter Bethany Votta (Cumberland, RI) tallied 33 assists, 11 digs and three aces. Sophomore outside hitter Meaghan Coutu (Brookline, MA) posted a stat line of eight kills, 15 digs, three assisted blocks and one ace. Freshman libero Lilly Misay (New Bedford, MA) finished with 15 digs.

Bay Path 3, Bridgewater State 0

The Wildcats posted a 25-22 win in the first set and completed the sweep with a 25-18 decision in the second set followed by a 25-15 victory in set three.

Sophomore outside hitter Anastaya Tsetko (Horsham, Pa.) recorded 13 kills, five digs and three assisted blocks in the win for the Wildcats while freshman middle blocker Mckenzie Labier (Beckett, Mass.) tallied seven kills, one ace and six digs. Junior outside hitter Lilly Kibbs (Ware, Mass.) added six kills, five aces and eight digs in the contest.

For Bridgewater State, Coutu tallied eight kills, one ace, six dig and one solo block while Votta put up 15 assists, two kills, two aces, four digs and three blocks (one solo). Misay contributed 13 digs and three aces, and Welch helped the Bears' cause with seven kills, an ace and a solo block.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain MASCAC rival MCLA on Wednesday evening at six o'clock.
