Rice, Holmes Named to All-MASCAC Volleyball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior middle hitter Sydney Rice and junior setter Casey Holmes have been voted to the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball All-Conference Team by the league's eight head coaches.

Rice was named to the All-MASCAC First Team and Holmes garnered second team honors. Both are making their first appearance on the All-MASCAC Team.

In 22 matches this season, Rice recorded team-highs with 172 kills, a .230 hitting percentage, 37 blocks (17 solo) and 218 points. The Medway, Massachusetts product also added 19 aces and 34 digs.

Rice currently ranks third in the MASCAC in points per set (3.0), fourth in hitting percentage (.230) and fifth in solo blocks. She is also sixth among the conference leaders in kills per set (2.40) and eighth in total kills.

In 72 matches over three seasons with the Bears, Rice has amassed 384 kills, 38 aces, 121 blocks (57 solo) and 78 digs.

Holmes appeared in 24 matches this season and led the bears with 535 assists while also adding 48 kills, 38 aces, 186 digs and 19 blocks (eight solo). The Norton, Massachusetts native ranks third in the MASCAC in assists per set with 6.65 and is fourth in total assists.

In 63 matches over three seasons in a BSU uniform, Holmes has recorded 819 assists, 76 kills, 56 aces, and 314 digs.

The BSU volleyball team wrapped up the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 11-15. Seeded third in the MASCAC Tournament with a 5-2 conference mark, the Bears posted a 3-0 victory over #6 Salem State University in the tournament quarterfinal round before dropping a 3-0 decision to second-seeded Framingham State University in the semifinals.
