WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Clark University volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-12) victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Friday evening at the Kneller Athletic Center.
The Cougars improve to 5-13 on the season, while the Bears fall to 6-7.
Freshman outside hitter Claudia Rivera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the way for Clark with a match-best 12 kills and a .667 hitting percentage to go along with a pair of aces. Junior setter Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, Calif.) dished out a match-high 22 assists, while sophomore defensive specialist Marimo Oka (Fukuoka, Japan recorded a match-best four aces. Freshman outside hitter Cameron Gill (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added seven kills, two aces and a match-high eight digs for the Cougars.
For Bridgewater State, junior middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) and sophomore right side hitter Becca Whalen (Plymouth, Mass.) finished with four kills and two assisted blocks apiece while Rice also recorded the Bears' lone ace of the match. Junior setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) checked in with ten assists, two kills and five digs, and freshman libero Victoria Caiano (New Bedford, Mass.) added three kills, seven assists and five digs. Freshman outside hitter Theresa O'Brien (Canton, Mass.) notched a pair of kills in three attacking attempts in her collegiate debut.
Clark posted a .333 team hitting percentage with 32 kills, while the Cougars held the Bears to a .075 hitting percentage and 22 kills. The hosts also finished with 13 aces and seven receiving errors. Bridgewater State recorded just the one aces and four serving errors.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday night at seven. The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth to take on the Corsairs, while the Cougars entertain New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Wellesley College.
