WENHAM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of decisions at a tri-match hosted by Gordon College on Saturday at the Bennett Center.
The Bears (3-4) opened the day with a 3-1 loss (25-10, 25-12, 17-25, 25-16) to the host Fighting Scots, and then dropped a 3-0 decision (25-10, 25-10, 25-8) to Wheaton College.
Junior setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) notched eight kills with no attacking errors to go along with 20 assists and six digs against Gordon. Junior outside hitter Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.) added six kills and nine digs, while freshman libero Victoria Caiano (New Bedford, Mass.) checked in with a pair of aces and 11 digs.
The Bears posted a .125 hitting percentage in the loss to Gordon and finished with six aces and 11 serving errors. The Fighting Scots recorded a .200 hitting percentage with five blocks, 17 aces and six serving errors.
In the match against Wheaton, Holmes tallied eight assists, two digs, a pair of solo blocks and a kill. Serrano contributed four kills and six digs, while freshman defensive specialist Alicia Delaney (Brockton, Mass.) added ten digs.
The Bears, who were without the services of leading hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) in both matches, struggled on the attack in the loss to the Lyons as they finished with more attacking errors (15) than kills (9). Bridgewater also committed five serving errors and did not record an ace. Wheaton posted a .373 hitting percentage with 12 aces and seven serving errors.
In upcoming action, the Bears open Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on Tuesday at home against Framingham State University. The match is slated to get underway at 6:00 PM.
