BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman libero Cassidy Tyros has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Tyros averaged 20.6 digs and 1.2 aces in a 3-2 week for the Bears which included a career-high 25 digs in a 3-1 MASCAC win over Worcester State University.

At the Johnson and Wales Wildcat Classic, Tyros equaled her career-best mark of 25 digs and recorded an ace in the Bears' 3-1 win over Rutgers-Newark. She also tallied 11 digs and two aces in a 3-0 victory over UNE, 18 digs and an ace in a 3-1 setback to Southern Maine and 24 digs and two aces in a 3-2 loss to tournament champion Rhode Island College. 

Tyros has 256 digs and ten aces through 20 matches this season. She currently ranks third in the MASCAC with her 256 digs.

The BSU volleyball team is presently 9-11 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears travel to Salve Regina University on Tuesday night for a seven o'clock non-conference match with the Seahawks.
