Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match

SALEM, Mass. –  Bridgewater State won both tri-meet matches hosted by Salem State on Saturday afternoon. The Bears defeated Salem State 25-13, 25-22, and 25-13 in a MASCAC conference matchup in the first game of the day, and swept Norwich 25-12, 25-17, and 25-15 in the second match. The Bears are now 6-9 on the season and 1-1 in conference. The Vikings (3-8, 1-1) snapped a five-game losing streak as they beat the Cadets, 25-12, 25-15, 25-27, 25-14 in the final match of the day. Norwich is now 2-8 on the season.  

Game 1
Bridgewater State 3 Salem State 0
Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) recorded seven kills and two blocks while Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) racked up 24 assists as the Bears swept the Vikings in three straight sets. Trailing, 22-20 in set two, Salem State rallied as Micaela Forcaciari (Plymouth, Mass.) and Emily Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) recorded back-to-back kills to pull the Vikings even. However, a service error and kills by Panner and Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) pushed Bridgewater State to the win. In set three, the Bears raced out to a 6-2 lead and never trailed as Goncalves spearheaded the win with two blocks and a kill to help Bridgewater State pull away. Peay finished the match with nine kills while Mackenzie Salls (Turner Falls, Mass.) added 20 assists for the Vikings.
 
Game 2
Bridgewater State 3 Norwich 0
Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) notched 14 kills and Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a game-high 15 digs in the second match to lead the Bears to the 3-0 win. Panner added 32 assists and together with Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) recorded eight service aces. The Bears opened up a comfortable lead in the first set after the Cadets closed the score to 10-9. However, two kills each by Goncalves and Bennett ignited a 12-2 Bridgewater State run, including six straight points off Panner's serve as the Bears won easily. Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) led Norwich with seven kills and Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) added 11 digs. 
 
Game 3
Salem State 3 Norwich 1
Jerika Santiago (Methuen, Mass.) had 11 kills and 15 digs to lead the Vikings in game three. Salls also played well as the freshman accumulated 40 assists in the win. The Vikings easily dispatched the Cadets in the first two sets before the Cadets fought back to earn a 27-25 win in set three. Losing 24-21, Norwich took advantage of two Salem State errors before Oliver's kill tied the score at 24-24. Salem State went back on top by a point, but Norwich finished strong as two kills by Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) and an attack error by Salem State gave the Cadets the victory. In the fourth set, the Vikings dominated a close match, outscoring Norwich 13-5 in the stretch, riding the hot hand of Kaleena Kara (Douglas, Mass.), who set up the Vikings off the serve with four straight points.  Oliver topped the Cadets with nine kills and 14 digs while Katherine Crane (Avon, N.Y.) totaled 20 assists.
