Christina Jaros Named MASCAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For an impressive fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Jaros averaged 5.5 kills, 3.25 digs and 1.5 blocks while posting a .241 hitting percentage in a 1-3 week for the Bears.

Jaros notched three kills, five digs and three assisted blocks in a 3-0 setback to Worcester State.  She also tallied 19 kills, two aces, eight digs and three solo blocks in three matches at the Hall of Fame Invitational.

Through 33 matches this season, Jaros has amassed 175 kills, eight aces, 55 digs and 67 blocks (29 solo). She leads the MASCAC in assisted blocks (38) and ranks second in both solo blocks and total blocks as well as tenth in kills.

The BSU volleyball team is currently 15-18 on the season and 2-3 in the MASCAC standings.  The Bears return to the court on Wednesday evening when they travel to Suffolk University for a seven o'clock non-conference match with the Rams.  Bridgewater then wraps up regular season play on Saturday afternoon (1:00) at home against conference foe MCLA.  A win over the Trailblazers would give the Bears the #4 seed and a first round home game in next week's MASCAC Tournament.
