Volleyball Downs MCLA on Senior Day, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University Bears cruised to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-5, 25-16) victory over the visiting Trailblazers of MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) volleyball match-up on Saturday afternoon at the Tinsley Center.

With the win, the Bears (17-18, 3-3 MASCAC) earn the fourth seed in next week's MASCAC Tournament and will host the Trailblazers (15-12, 2-4 MASCAC) in a first round match next Wednesday evening at six.

Prior to the match, the Bears honored seniors Rebecca Morse (Norton, Mass.), Sarah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.), Stephanie Tuepker (Marstons, Mills, Mass.) and Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.).  The four seniors were playing in their final regular season home game.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) paced Bridgewater State with a match-high 16 kills and a .483 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs. Freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) added nine kills, an aced, four digs and a match-best four blocks (two solo), while junior middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) chipped in with six kills and an ace.

BSU sophomore setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) registered a match-high 36 assists in addition to three kills and eight digs.  Panner is averaging 11 assists per set in two matches since returning from injury. As a team, the Bears averaged just 8.3 assists per set in the 11 matches with Panner out of the lineup.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Anderson (Floral Park, N.Y.) led the way for MCLA with nine kills, while sophomore right side hitter Rachel Mills (Highland Mills, N.Y.) added six kills and junior setter Courtney Parent (South Deerfield, Mass.) tallied 15 assists.
