PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) earned All-Tournament honors to lead the Bridgewater State University volleyball team to a third place finish at the Johnson & Wales Invitational.
The Bears (14-8) dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-23) decision to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday but rebounded with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-20) victory over Plymouth State University to finish 2-2 at the tournament.
Jaros notched six kills, one ace, five digs and two solo blocks in the loss to the Colonials. She also tallied eight kills, one ace, four digs and five blocks (three solo) in the win over the Panthers.
Jaros finished with 28 kills, three aces, 17 digs and nine blocks (six solo) in BSU's four matches over the weekend.
Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) recorded 18 kills, 15 digs and two blocks (one solo) in the Bears' two matches on Saturday including ten kills, 12 digs and two blocks in the victory over Plymouth State.
Maymon posted a team-best .307 hitting percentage in the four matches over the weekend with a team-high 47 kills.
Sophomore setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) tallied 20 assists against Western Connecticut and added 27 in the Plymouth State match. Panner registered 108 assists during the tournament as she now has 1,313 in her career.
Next weekend, Bridgewater competes at the Union Invitational. The Bears take on Union and Skidmore on Friday, and Susquehanna and Lasell on Saturday.
