BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-3, 25-10, 25-18) non-conference victory over visiting Mount Ida College on Thursday evening at the Tinsley Center.
Bridgewater improves to 10-6 on the season as the Bears extended their modest winning streak to four matches. Mount Ida slips to 4-11 overall.
The Bears recorded nine aces in the match and limited the Mustangs to a -.115 hitting percentage. Bridgewater also finished with 59 digs and seven team blocks.
Sophomore setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) paced the Bears with 11 assists, eight digs and five aces. Sophomore outside hitter Clara Goncalves (Dennis, Mass.) notched eight kills and recorded a .412 hitting percentage, while freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) added five kills and five blocks (two solo).
Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) also contributed five kills and ten digs for the hosts , while junior middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) chipped in with three kills, four digs, a pair of aces and two blocks (one solo). Seniors Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.) and Rebecca Morse (Norton, Mass.) added 11 and seven digs, respectively.
Senior setter Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) led the way for the Mustangs with seven assists, six digs, one kill and one ace. Junior libero Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) added 12 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Alysha Dunbar (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) registered three kills apiece.
In upcoming action, the Bears host MASCAC foe Salem State University on Saturday at noon. The Mustangs are off until next Tuesday (Sept. 30) when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a seven o'clock non-conference match with the Corsairs.
