Melanie Appleman Named MASCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior setter Melanie Appleman has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.

A native of Hyannis, Massachusetts, Appleman averaged 23.3 assists, 11.8 digs, 4.5 kills and 1.3 aces in a 2-2 week for the Bears which included a 38-assist, 19-dig, six-kill effort in a key 3-2 MASCAC victory at Worcester State.

Appleman was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Hall of Fame Invitational as she recorded four kills, 26 assists and ten digs in a 3-0 setback to Brandeis; three kills, 20 assists, ten digs and a pair of aces in a 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke; and five kills, nine assists and eight digs in a 3-0 loss to Tufts.

In 23 matches this season, Appleman has amassed 539 assists, 181 digs, 64 kills and 25 aces.  She currently ranks this in the MASCAC with her 539 assists.

In 79 matches over her first three season with the Bears, Appleman has produced 1,689 assists, which places her sixth all-time in program history in that category.  The two-time All-MASCAC Second Team selection also has 465 digs, 179 kills, 67 aces and 66 blocks (21 solo) to her credit.

The Bridgewater State University volleyball team is currently 10-13 on the season and 4-1 in the MASCAC.  The Bears are tied with Westfield State for second place in the conference standings.  The two teams will meet in the MASCAC regular season finale on Wednesday night (6:00) at the Tinsley Center with the second seed in next week's conference tournament on the line.
