Volleyball Falls to Martin Methodist, Centenary at Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair decisions to Martin Methodist College and Centenary College during the second day of the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.

Bridgewater lost to Martin Methodist, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-6) and suffered a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17) setback to Centenary.

With the two losses, the Bears fall to 11-17 on the season as they went 0-4 at the invitational.

In the match against Martin Methodist, junior outside hitter Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H.) paced the Bears with seven kills and 16 digs.  Junior setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) added 19 assists and 12 digs, while freshman outside hitter Carolyn Morin (Marstons Mills, Mass.) notched four kills and five digs.

Dean led the way for Bridgewater in the loss to Centenary as she finished with six kills and 29 digs.  Appleman chipped in with 12 assists, ten digs, two kills and an ace, while Morin added six kills and eight digs.

Bridgewater will be back in action next Saturday when they compete in the semifinal round of the MASCAC Tournament at Framingham State.  The second-seeded Bears have a first round bye and will take on either third seeded Westfield State or number six MCLA.
