Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches during day one action at the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday.

The Bears suffered a 3-2 (25-21, 16-25, 19-25, 25-11, 15-8) setback to host Rhodes, and dropped a 3-1 (25-11, 23-25, 25-8, 25-16) decision to Birmingham Southern College.

The Bears fall to 11-15 on the season with the two losses.

In the match againt Rhodes, junior setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) paced the Bears with 27 assists, 17 digs, four kills and two aces.  Freshman outside hitter Carolyn Morin (Marstons Mills, Mass.) added a team-best ten kills, while junior outside hitter Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H.) notched nine kills, 15 digs and an ace.  Junior defensive specialist Chelsea Correia (East Falmouth, Mass.) led all players with four aces.

Appleman led the way for Bridgewater in the loss to Birmingham Southern as she finished with 19 assists, nine digs, two kills and one ace.  Dean chipped in with 13 digs and seven kills, while Correia, junior Kristen Robillard (Swansea, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) added ten digs apiece.

On Saturday afternoon, the Bears will take on Martin Methodist College at one and Centenary College at three.
