Volleyball Falls to UMass Dartmouth, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth volleyball team remained unbeaten on the season as the visiting Corsairs downed the Bears of Bridgewater State University, 3-0, on Thursday evening at the Tinsley Center.

The Corsairs won by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-19 to improve their win-loss record to 11-0.  The Bears slip to 4-5 on the year.

Junior hitter Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, Mass.) paced the visitors with nine kills and a .400 hitting percentage to go along with an ace and two assisted blocks.  Senior setter Jessica Goncalves (New Bedford, Mass.) notched 29 assists and 16 digs.  Freshman outside hitter Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added eight kills and three digs, while classmate Linsay Boulay (Swansea, Mass.) chipped in with 16 digs.

Junior setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) paced the host Bears with 17 assists, three kills and six digs.  Junior hitter Emily Boyer (Stockbridge, Mass.) registered a season-high eight kills, while junior libero Kristen Robillard (Swansea, Mass.) finished with 14 digs.  Freshman middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) notched a match-high three solo blocks to go along with three kills.

After two closely contested sets, UMass led 14-12 in set three before going on a 7-0 run to pull away for the 25-19 victory and a sweep of the match.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater entertains Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA on Saturday afternoon at one.  UMass travels to Little East Conference rival Plymouth State University on Saturday for a noontime match with the Panthers.
