MILTON, Mass. – Junior Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, MA) dished out a match high 38 assists, leading visiting Bridgewater State to a 3-0 victory over Curry in women's volleyball action Thursday night in Milton. Set scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 27-25.
The Bears got their first win of the season, improving to 1-2, while the Colonels dropped their first contest of the season, falling to 3-1.
Bridgewater State cruised to easy wins in the first two sets, collecting 12 and 16 kills per set, respectively. Curry struggled offensively, managing just seven total kills over the opening two sets.
The Colonels saved their best for last, pushing the Bears to a 25-25 tie before the visitors notched the final two points to clinch the match.
Bridgewater State was led by junior Tayler Beck (Marion, MA) with a match-high 12 kills. Junior Danielle Dean (Gilford, NH) followed with 11 kills. Dean also recorded a match high of 22 digs. Appleman and Beck each contributed a match high three service aces.
Sophomores Courtney DiBiasio (Coventry, RI) and Tiana Sturtze (Worcester, MA), and freshman Brittany Lynch each contributed a team-high three kills for Curry. Sophomore Hannah Robison (Cumberland RI) dished out a team-best six assists. Sturtze and sophomore Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) each tallied two block assists.
Both teams are on the road this Saturday. The Bears will visit SUNY College at Old Westbury for a weekend quad match. The Colonels travel to Portland, Maine for a tri-match hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
