Robillard, Appleman Named to All-MASCAC Volleyball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomores Kristen Robillard and Melanie Appleman have been voted to the 2011 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball All-Conference Team by the league’s head coaches.

Robillard garnered first team honors after being named to the All-MASCAC Second Team while at MCLA in 2010.  Appleman is making her second straight appearance on the all-conference second team.

A native of Swansea, Massachusetts, Robillard recorded 536 digs and 22 aces in 30 matches during her first season with the Bears.  The 536 digs not only led the MASCAC but was also the fourth high single-season total in program history.  The sophomore libero also set a single-match record for digs with 42 against Rutgers-Newark back in September at the season-opening NYU Labor Day Invitational.

Appleman finished the 2011 campaign with 502 assists, 188 digs, 84 kills, 39 blocks (10 solo), 28 aces and a .944 serve percentage.  The setter from Hyannis, Massachusetts ranked fourth in the MASCAC with her 502 assists.  In 56 matches over two seasons with the Bears, Appleman has 1,150 assists and 115 kills to her credit to go along with 284 digs, 54 blocks (19 solo) and 42 aces.

The Bridgewater State volleyball team posted a record of 8-22 on the season and finished fourth in the MASCAC regular season standings with a 3-3 conference mark.  Seeded fourth in the MASCAC Tournament the Bears lost to top seed and eventual champion Westfield State in the semifinals.
