Volleyball Falls to Colby-Sawyer, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Colby-Sawyer College Chargers posted a 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-14) victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference women's volleyball action on Friday evening at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

The Chargers, winners of five straight matches, improve to 18-14 on the season, while the host Bears fall to 8-21.

Freshman outside hitter Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore middle hitter Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) paced Colby-Sawyer with ten kills apiece, while sophomore defensive specialist Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) notched 21 digs and four aces.  Senior setter Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) added 34 assists for the Chargers.

Sophomore middle hitter Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, Mass.) led the way for Bridgewater State as she tallied five kills and two blocks (one solo), and registered a .357 hitting percentage.  Sophomore setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) added 13 assists and six digs, while classmate Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H.) finished with 15 digs and a pair of aces. Sophomore middle hitter Shayna Carmichael (Westport, Mass.) chipped in with three kills and three solo blocks.

Bridgewater will take on Westfield State University in the semifinal round of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament on Saturday, November 5th. The Bears are seeded fourth at the tournament while Westfield is the top seed and host.  Colby-Sawyer will host a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament match next Friday at 6:00 PM.
