Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to MASCAC Foe Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Westfield State University women's volleyball team blanked Bridgewater State University, 3-0, (25-22, 25-16, 25-13) in a key Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening, October 26, at the Woodward Center.
 
The Owls captured at least a share of the MASCAC regular season championship and earned the right to host the conference's postseason tournament on Nov. 5 with the victory over Bridgewater.
 
Westfield is 5-0 in the MASCAC, 12-19 overall, and plays winless Massachusetts Maritime Academy in its regular season finale this Saturday. Bridgewater drops to 3-3 and 8-20.  The Bears host a non-conference match with Colby-Sawyer College on Friday night.
 
Westfield's three seniors – Alex Shaw (East Falmouth), Kerin DeGirolamo (North Attleboro) and Kelley Dickson (West Springfield) – led the Owls to their 17th straight MASCAC regular season victory. Westfield owns a 27-1 MASCAC regular season mark over the past five years.
 
Shaw produced 11 kills, five service aces and four blocks. DeGirolamo had 35 assists, three aces and four blocks and Dickson had a game-high 14 digs. Also playing well for the Owls was sophomore Julia Warner (Lee) who added 12 kills and eight digs).
 
BSU sophomore Melanie Appleman (Hyannis) registered 14 assists, eight digs and three assists for the Bears while classmate Danielle Dean (Gilford, NH) notched 10 digs, three aces and three kills.  Freshman Rebecca Morse (Norton) posted a team-high five kills and sophomore Michelle Atkins (Chelsea) contributed three blocks (two solo) and three kills.

Bridgewater will be the fourth seed in the MASCAC Tournament which takes place on Saturday, November 5th and will take on Westfield in the semifinals.
