Volleyball Drops 3-2 MASCAC Decision to Framingham

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Tuesday night in Bridgewater.

Framingham, which trailed two games to one before rallying for the victory, improves to 14-8 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC while Bridgewater slips to 8-14 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The Rams opened the match with a 27-25 win before dropping the next two games 25-10 and 27-25.  Framingham then posted a 25-21 victory and completed the comeback with a 15-11 decision in the fifth and deciding game.

Sophomore outside hitter Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) paced the visiting Rams with a match-best 20 kills.  Freshman setter Morgan Drew (North Easton, Mass.) notched 40 assists, while freshman libero Kayla Bertrand (Agawam, Mass.) added 25 digs. Freshman middle hitter Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.) chipped in with three aces and a pair of blocks and junior hitter Jackie Friel (Centerville, Mass.) registered four blocks.

Bridgewater was led by sophomore middle hitter Tayler Beck (Marion, Mass.) who finished with 13 kills, five aces and five blocks (three solo).  Sophomore setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) notched 35 assists, six kills, two aces and a pair of blocks, while classmate Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H.) tallied 27 digs, five kills and three aces.  Sophomore middle hitter Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, Mass.) added six kills and four solo blocks for the Bears.

Bridgewater travels to Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon for one o'clock non-conference match with the Blue. Framingham hosts a tri-match with MASCAC foe Worcester State University and Husson University on Saturday beginning at noon.
