Volleyball Posts 3-2 Come-From-Behind Win over Lasell

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team battled back from two sets down to defeat the Lasers of Lasell College, 3-2, on Monday evening at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

The match marked the 2011 home opener for the host Bears who improve to 6-10 on the season.  Lasell slips to 7-8 with the tough loss.

The Bears lost the first two games by identical scores of 25-21 and trailed 10-4 in the third set when they went on a 9-1 run to get back in the match. The run was the turning point of the evening as Bridgewater went on to win game three by a score of 25-23 and then won the next two (25-21, 15-10) to come away with the 3-2 victory.

BSU was led by sophomore outside hitter Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H) who notched 14 kills and 23 digs.  Sophomore setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) added 36 assists and 12 digs while sophomore libero Chelsea Correia (East Falmouth, Mass.) recorded five aces and 20 digs.  Sophomore middle hitter Tayler Beck (Marion, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Sarah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) chipped in with 11 kills apiece.

Seniors Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) paced the visiting Lasers with 14 kills apiece.  Senior setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) tallied a game-high 40 assists to go along with 21 digs.

For the match, the Bears posted a .131 hitting percentage and notched ten aces and 11 team blocks.

Bridgewater will host MASCAC foe Mass. Maritime Academy on Wednesday evening at six.
