Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Regis, Husson

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team hosted Bridgewater State University and Husson University in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon, but the Pride fell to both squads by matching scores of 3-0. Bridgewater State took home the third match of the day with a 3-0 win over Husson. With the pair of wins, Bridgewater State improves to 3-8 while Husson moves to 9-3 and Regis College drops to 3-7.

In the first match of the day, the Bears defeated Regis by set scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-10. Bridgewater was paced by eight kills apiece from Shannon Holt (Weymouth, Msas.) and Tayler Beck (Marion, Mass.). Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H.) also chipped in with six kills while Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, Mass.) had seven of her own in the win. Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) led the Bears with 18 assists while Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.) posted eight helpers in the match. Danielle Dean also notched 18 assists while Kristen Robillard (Swansea, Mass.) and Lisa Vega added 14 and 11 digs each, respectively.

For the Pride, the offense was paced by six kills from Domingas Gomes (Brockton, Mass.), while Megan Pratt (Rockport, Mass.) added three kills. Caitlyn Walsh (Taunton, Mass.) dished out a team-high 15 assists and also added 10 digs while Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) had a pair of service aces to go along with 14 digs in the setback. Three Regis players posted two kills apiece including Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.), Anneliese Harrison (Holliston, Mass.) and Sara Gold.

Following the Bridgewater State vs. Regis match was a game between the Bears and Husson University. Bridgewater defeated the Eagles with set scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22 to pick up its third straight win this season after starting 0-8. The Bears were led by 10 kills from Tayler Beck, who also had three service aces, while Danielle Dean had eight kills and 10 digs. Melanie Appleman handed out 17 assists and Lisa Vega added nine of her own. Kristen Robillard led the team with 15 digs while Chelsea Correia (East Falmouth, Mass.) notched 14 digs.

Husson's Hannah Olstad (Farmington, N.H.) led the Eagles' offense with eight kills and also added a service ace, eight digs, and 1.5 total blocks. Kelsey Burrill (Somersworth, N.H.) and Chelly Smith (New Boston, N.H.) each chipped in with five kills apiece while Aleta Johnson (Milton, N.H.) led Husson with 16 assists and 11 digs. Rachel Voicechovski (Westerly, R.I.) posted a team-high 18 digs and Chelly Smith added 11 of her own.

In the final match of the day, Husson battled Regis to a 3-0 win with set scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-23. The Eagles were led by eight kills apiece from Kelsey Burrill and Hannah Olstad, who added another 2.5 total blocks for the day. Kate Freudenberger (Bangor, Maine) had six kills in the win. Aleta Johnson passed the ball well, notching 25 assists while Justine Walicki (Plainville, Conn.) led the Husson defense with 16 digs. Chelly Smith, Alex Barner (Woodstock, Conn.) and Rachel Voicechovski also reached double-figures in digs with 10, 12, and 11 digs each respectively.

Regis was led by six kills from Megan Pratt while Jackie Silver posted another four kills. Domingas Gomes and Vanessa Noesi also chipped in with three kills apiece. Caitlyn Walsh posted her second double-double of the day with 13 assists to go along with 13 digs. Sara Gold posted a game-high 18 digs in the setback and teamed with Walsh to grab six service aces, three for each player.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Paxton, Mass. to take on Anna Maria College in a non-conference matchup at 7:00 p.m. Bridgewater State looks to extend its winning-streak to four games when the Bears travel to Simmons College for a 7:00 p.m. game on Tuesday, September 20th. Husson take on Maine-Farmington on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. as well.
