Volleyball Drops a Pair of Matches at the JWU Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Amherst College and Keene State College during day one action of the Johnson & Wales Invitational on Friday. 

The Bears (0-6) lost by scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 25-12 to Amherst and 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17 to Keene State.

Sophomore setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) paced Bridgewater with 20 assists and five kills in the loss to Amherst.  Classmate Tayler Beck (Marion, Mass.) added seven kills while sophomore libero Kristen Robillard (Swansea, Mass.) chipped in with 16 digs.

Beck paced Bridgewater with eight kills, seven digs and one block versus Keene State.  Freshman Lisa Vega (Milford, Mass.) chipped in with 14 digs and seven assists, while Appleman notched nine assists and five digs.  Freshman middle blocker Rebecca Morse (Chelsea, Mass.) added three blocks.

JWU Invitational play resumes for the Bears on Saturday as they take on Wheaton College at noon and Springfield College at 3:00 PM.
