Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at NYU Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions at the season opening NYU Invitational on Friday.

The Bears lost a tight three-set match to Montclair State University, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, and then bowed to Brockport State University, 25-14, 25-22, 25-16.

Bridgewater will take on Wentworth at 11:00 AM on Saturday morning.

Montclair, Brockport and host NYU all went 2-0 during the first day of competition. SUNY-Geneseo and Albion College went 1-1, while Bridgewater, Wentworth and Rutgers-Newark finished 0-2.

Sophomore setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) led the way for the Bears with 41 assists and two solo blocks in the match with Montclair.  Sophomore libero Kristen Robillard (Swansea, Mass.) added 16 digs while sophomore middle hitter Shayna Carmichael (Westport, Mass.) chipped in with six kills and three solo blocks.

Appleman also finished with 44 assists and three block assists against Brockport.  Robillard notched 23 digs while sophomore outside hitter Danielle Dean (Gilford, N.H.) tallied five kills.
