Volleyball Defeats Wheaton, 3-1, at Hall of Fame Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 12-25, 25-20) victory over Wheaton College at the Hall of Fame Invitational at Smith College on Friday night.

The Bears, who are the fourth seed in the silver bracket, will take on Westfield State University in the silver bracket semifinals tomorrow at noon.  The top-seeded Owls defeated host Smith College, 3-2, in their opening match.

Senior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, Mass.) paced Bridgewater with 12 kills and 16 digs, while junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) added ten kills, nine digs, three blocks (including the 200th of her career) and one ace.

Senior outside hitter Kristina Campbell (Taunton, Mass.) tallied eight kills, eight digs and three aces and freshman setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) dished out 35 assists. 

Also playing well for the Bears were senior outside hitter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and freshman middle hitter Tayler Beck (Marion, Mass.).  Cohen added eight digs, four aces and four assists, while Beck notched six kills, eight digs, a block and an ace.  All told, Bridgewater recorded nine aces in the match.
